With Mountain Mayhem approaching Hoops has the Scott out for its yearly month of beasting. I made the mistake of joining him for a quick ride last week and got a kickin. This Tuesday however was something else – no singletrack whatsoever. It was all fields and open track, just like it will at Ledbury!
Oop the shop there were 8 hardy riders out for some fun, with Damo making a surprise appearance, which was nice. Jo also decided to come too, and Dave was at the shop to make sure she was ok

We tapped out into Clapham woods where ASBO’s rather expensive Ti cassette decided to come loose again-too much Vodka, not enough fettling, I say. Quickly back on it with some spray into the face and a quick nip of Hoops finest single malt whiskey – yuk.

The stinging nettle climb always annoys me and today was no different. Duly stung to bits, Hoops kindly handed out some dock leaves to alleviate the stingage, which worked a treat.

Past Lee Farm we had a well deserved Jelly Baby stop, I had 4 green, two yellow and an orange one. Richard also handed round a nip of his finest 20 year old rum – yuk again!

Beasting up to the SDW, I noticed something I’d never seen before – A burnout tank, peppered with bullet holes. Damo and I clambered onto it and marvelled how thick the steel was and how big the bullets must have been to obtain full penetration into it. 50 calibre Damo reckons. A big chuffing gun, I said.

We met Uncle Flip on the SDW and we all headed over towards Chanc. We took a detour along the ridgeway where Tim & Chard almost went over. Then down into Cissbury where Chard got a puncture. 18 minutes l (Well timed Brian), and a Maple Granola bar thing later, which was quite nice btw, we went to the pub for beer, chips and pie.

Much to the disgust of everyone including the Chinese delivery boy, recovery food this week was Sweet & Sour Chicken balls, no 87, £3.80. They were lush. Oh and a pint of Stella.
