Try out Exposures powerhouse MaXx-D on the epic South Downs Night Ride!

Exposure Lights are giving riders on Trail Break’s mammoth MaXx Exposure event a chance to try out their top end 2010 lighting systems this September.

MaXx Exposure takes place on September 26th and features a choice of stunning night rides on the South Downs. The full MaXx is a whopping 80 mile end to end along the South Downs Way from Beachy Head to Butser Hill. It may sound a little insane, but it’s an event with a four year pedigree now and, with everything from transport, hi-viz night signage, checkpoint support, and breakfast and camping at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park finish, Trail Break lay on everything you need to see the ride through, except for legs and determination. You need to bring those. And if that end to end does sound too big, there are 20 & 40 mile and loop options form the QE Park base.

The MaXx is the perfect event for the latest generation of lights too (or indeed for the previous generation with a spare battery!) and if you want to try out the cutting edge tech from the Exposure boys, you can hire a MaXx-D for the night form one of their selected South Coast stockists.

As John Cookson from USE tells us, while the light range is expanding it still retains the tools for the most demanding rides. “The Exposure Lights range is going to be raising hell in 2010 with new additions to the range like Toro, Diablo, Strada and Spark completing an all encompassing line up. Whatever you need the Exposure range has it covered.

The MaXx-D is still the daddy of lights, and that’s what we’re offering riders for the MaXx Exposure. It’s super-high output and massive burn time make it the perfect light to see you through what is the most epic night event on the calendar. The cable free design allows for easy use and extreme performance in a very compact design too.”

Light hire for the event is £20 and you’ll get that deducted from your purchase price if you’re impressed enough to buy the light afterwards. You can arrange hire of the lights from one of the following shops, all of whom will be helping out at the event too.

Hargroves (Winchester) 01962 860 005
Quest Adventure (Worthing) 01903 573700
South Downs Bikes (Storrington) 01903 745 534
The Tri Store (Eastbourne) 01323 417 071

Nope it’s not some sort of kinky past time of ours, but in fact it’s a night time enduro held at the end of September every year. Competitors ride the South Downs Way from Eastbourne to Queen Elizabeth country park in Petersfield. It’s around 75 miles and as anyone who has done a large chunk of the SDW will tell you, it’s far from flat!

There are a series of checkpoints and electronic timing chips on all riders. We help the guys from Quest Adventure run the checkpoint each year and have a little party at the same time. The last two times global warming has ensured decent weather and the riders have been treated to unusually calm evenings.

We set up at 20:00 and the first few riders started coming through about 21:30 ish, with Rob Lee setting a blistering pace, man he’s quick! It was good to see Charlie “Blue steel” Eustace (where did he get that nickname from?) doing well too.

Here’s a few pictures from the night…….
